The R231 SL-Class utilizes an aluminum construction, shedding 140 kg (309 lb) in comparison to its predecessor. Notably, the non-AMG V12 engine SL 600 model is absent in this generation. The R231 model showcases an aluminum space-frame design, measuring 182 in (4,623 mm) in length and 83 in (2,108 mm) in width, wider and longer than the previous iteration.
