The R231 chassis code marks the sixth generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class. Boasting a new 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 435 PS (320 kW; 429 hp). The R231 SL-Class utilizes an aluminum construction, shedding 140 kg (309 lb) in comparison to its predecessor. Notably, the non-AMG V12 engine SL 600 model is absent in this generation. The R231 model showcases an aluminum space-frame design, measuring 182 in (4,623 mm) in length and 83 in (2,108 mm) in width, wider and longer than the previous iteration. The vehicle's folding hardtop roof includes an optional panoramic sunroof with variable tint.
